Episode 777 features My Whole Health Journey, an 18-minute film from the Veterans Health Administration about VA’s Whole Health approach, which treats the veteran as a whole person rather than a list of conditions. The story opens in a VA hallway, where a young Marine veteran with back pain and a lot on his mind meets an older veteran who works there. Over a cup of coffee, the conversation opens a path: a care team that starts by asking what matters most to him, a health coach, peer support, and practices such as tai chi, all built into a personal health plan around his own goals. For veterans and their families, the program shows that getting well can begin with one honest conversation. For VA partners, healthcare providers, veterans’ organizations, broadcasters, sponsors, and funders, it shows how care built around the person, and not only the diagnosis, can reach veterans who might otherwise walk away.

Sound Tips™ Companion
During this broadcast, the Sound Tips™ ticker brings hearing into the Whole Health picture. Tinnitus and hearing loss are consistently among the most common service-connected disabilities in VA’s annual benefits reporting, so hearing belongs in every veteran’s personal health plan. Loud noise from weapons, aircraft, engines, and machinery can permanently damage the inner ear, and noise-induced hearing loss is preventable with proper hearing protection. Whole Health tips: add a hearing check to your health goals; tell your care team about ringing, muffled sound, or trouble following conversations; stress and poor sleep can make tinnitus feel worse, so mind-body practices like tai chi, mindful breathing, and good sleep habits can help you cope; protect your hearing at the range, at work, and at concerts; and bring a trusted person to appointments if listening is hard. Veterans enrolled in VA health care can reach VA audiology for hearing tests, hearing aids, and tinnitus care.
