Part 2 continues the story of Robin, Peter, and Darryl as their hospital journeys deepen — the treatments, the caregivers, and the moments of courage that defined pediatric care in 1969. It is an honest look at how far children's medicine has come, and a conversation-starter for families, classrooms, and clinics about what compassionate care for young patients should look like today.

Sound Tips™ Companion

The Sound Tips™ ticker turns to the illnesses that can put a child's hearing at risk. Congenital CMV — cytomegalovirus — is the most common infectious cause of birth defects in the United States: about 1 in 200 babies is born with it, and about 1 in 5 of those will have long-term health problems, including hearing loss that can appear or worsen after a newborn hearing screen is passed. The ticker also covers bacterial meningitis, which can damage hearing permanently, and repeated middle-ear infections, one of the most common childhood causes of temporary — and sometimes lasting — hearing loss. And because good nourishment protects developing ears, the ticker shares how shortages of vitamins A, C, and E and of zinc, iron, and iodine are linked to poorer hearing and to ear infections that heal poorly — and what a hearing-healthy plate looks like for a growing child.
